Eyewitness NewsMINEOLA (WABC) -- The Nassau County legislature has approved layoffs or demotions for 385 full-time county workers. In addition to that, 149 part-timers would be let go and another 153 vacant jobs would be eliminated.
Union officials say some of the cuts could be prevented if the county goes ahead with offering incentives to workers who voluntarily retire.
County leaders need to trim the budget, with a $310 million deficit looming.---
