Eyewitness NewsHARTFORD, Conn. -- With the final day of scheduled contract talks between nearly 2,000 Hartford and New Haven building cleaners on tap, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy is urging both sides to avoid a strike. The Service Employees International Union, Local 32BJ, is scheduled to meet on Wednesday with the Hartford Area Cleaning Contractors Association. The current contract expires Sunday. The workers voted last week to allow their bargaining committee to call a strike if necessary.
Malloy on Tuesday urged both sides to come to the table with an open mind. He said a strike has the potential to disrupt the lives of the workers and those who work in the buildings they clean.
Those buildings include the state Capitol, the Travelers Tower in Hartford and New Haven City Hall.---
