Eyewitness NewsNEW YORK (WABC) -- New York Governor Andrew Cuomo says the public needs to help catch those who assault an MTA employee, and a cash reward would get them motivated.

The new Transit Watch program will offer up to $2,000 to riders who witness an assault and then help police track down the attacker or attackers.

Authorities say 48 MTA employees have been assaulted on the job this year.

That's compared to 40 in the same period last year.

Assaults on MTA workers jumped from 72 in 2010 to 94 in 2011.
