U.S. wine sales skyrocket

  Eyewitness NewsNEW YORK (WABC) -- Wine sales in the United States are skyrocketing.

Domestic wine retail sales spiked up 7 percent last year compared to 2009. And wine exports jumped to over $1 billion in 2010, up 25 percent.

For the first time, the U.S. in 2010 consumed more wine than France.

While the French still drink far more wine per capita, the U.S., with its larger population, has more people pouring a glass of cabernet sauvignon or chardonnay. (Copyright ©2011 WABC-TV/DT. All Rights Reserved.)
